The Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Music Association (IRRMA) has announced the Iowa High School Battle of the Bands Competition, with regional contests and a state final to be held in 2014.
“The competition is designed to encourage high school students to collaborate with their peers to perform live music,” says IRRMA Executive Director Jenna Hardy Pedersen. “Our hope is that the students will find this a fun way to build skills and work together toward a common goal. Additionally, the competition will help support IRRMA’s music scholarship program.”
IRRMA will host the regional competitions between February and July of 2014, with the final competition to be held during Labor Day Weekend at the Legendary Roof Garden in Arnolds Park, to coincide with IRRMA’s Hall of Fame Induction Spectacular Weekend, which is held annually in the Iowa Great Lakes area.
Competitors must be high school students during the 2014 calendar year and the bands must consist of at least two students. Prizes to be awarded may include a professional recording, gear, scholarships, and media recognition. The top band will have the opportunity to perform at IRRMA’s Hall of Fame Induction Concert on Labor Day Weekend in 2014.
Bands may apply online now. Official rules and application forms may be found on the Iowa Rock n Roll Music Association website www.iowarocknroll.com/education/battle-of-the-bands.
