Pat Smith and Charlene Mullihan just returned from an eight-day bus trip to New Mexico. They traveled down and back on Amtrak out of Kansas City. The things they saw while there included the Turquoise Museum; Old Town Albuquerque; Indian Pueblo Cultural Center; a tour of Acoma, Sky City; a pueblo town on top of a mesa and Petroglyphs National Park; a guided tour of Santa Fe, including the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi, and the Loretto Chapel, with its amazing spiral staircase made out of wood; Bandelier National Monument, a park with cliff dwellings and foundations of pueblos; Los Alamos, where the atomic bomb was built; Santario de Chamayo Chapel, with its healing powers and the Georgia O’Keeffe Art Museum. It was a wonderful trip of learning the history of the Southwest, making new friends and eating some delicious food at some unique places.
