Democrats to honor former legislator and county supervisor Larry Larson

Story County Democrats will honor long-time public servant Larry Larson at the party’s annual barbecue and family reunion this Saturday, Sept. 21, at Inis Grove Park in Ames.

“We’re delighted to use this occasion to show Larry how much we appreciate all he’s done for the people of central Iowa over the past 40 years,” said Story County Democratic Party Chair Jan Bauer.

Larson was elected to the Iowa Legislature in the early 1970s, representing southern Story County and parts of Jasper and Polk counties. Later he served three terms as a member of the Story County Board of Supervisors.

A graduate of Ames High and Iowa State College, Larson’s family operated a grocery store on West Street in Ames for many years that later became Dugan’s Deli. He currently owns the Town and Country Market in Slater.

Everyone is invited to the barbecue and family reunion, which begins Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Walnut Shelter of the Inis Grove Park, 2500 Duff Ave.

Featured speakers will be U.S. Congressional candidate for Iowa’s 4th District Jim Mowrer, and candidates for Iowa governor Jack Hatch, Bob Krause and Tyler Olson.

Barbecue sandwiches, vegetarian options and all the fixings will be served.

Admission is by any donation upon arrival or club membership in the Story County Democratic Party.
