Huxley centenarian to be honored on Oct. 14

Elizabeth Maland of Huxley is one of more than 20 Iowa centenarians, individuals who are 100 years of age or older, who will be honored by Gov. Branstad and Lt. Gov. Reynolds at the Scheman Building at Iowa State University in Ames on Oct. 14, between 12:30 and 2:15 p.m.

This special group of Iowans represents a wealth of wisdom, experience and treasured memories. They will be joined by caregivers and family members as they are honored with biographical sketches of their first 100 years, certificates, and photographs with the governor and lt. governor.

According to the 2010 U.S. Census, there are 846 centenarians in Iowa.

The centenarian event is part of a larger conference, Prospects for Independent Living, hosted by the Iowa Department on Aging.
