Improve babysitting skills by attending upcoming class

There will be a Babysitting Basics Class on Friday, March 21, at the Ames City Hall, 515 Clark Ave., in conference room 135. The class begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 4:30 p.m. The class is open to fifth- and sixth-graders who are interested in becoming babysitters or becoming a more prepared and informed babysitter. There is a $25 fee for materials and the deadline for signing up is March 14.

Participants will learn about the responsibilities of a babysitter, what employers expect and how to care for infants and toddlers. There will also be guest speakers teaching on the subjects of age appropriate toys and activities, safety and basic first aid and rescue breathing. All participants receive a book filled with information about child care, as well as a certificate of completion at the end of the course.

For questions about Babysitting Basics, contact the ISU-Story County Extension office at 515-382-6551 or email Michelle Deupree at mdeupree@iastate.edu.
