The musical comedy “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” will be performed in Fisher Theater beginning Nov. 1, with the production’s run concluding Nov. 10.
The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee celebrates the eleven million young people across the United States who annually enter the Scripps National Spelling Bee. In this Tony Award winning musical, three boys and three girls try their best to win the county bee and travel to the national competition in Washington, D.C. The adults in their world are sometimes comforting, but often distant, driven or indifferent.
The musical is based on a performance by a New York- based improvisational comedy troupe and aspects of that remain. Four audience members, selected before each performance begins, are called to the stage to compete with the characters and given words to spell, ranging from very easy to almost impossible.
Join ISU Theatre for this delightful musical and learn what happens behind the scenes when the stakes are high, hopes are huge and reality is just around the corner.
