The Volunteer Center of Story County and Iowa State University Student Activities Center are seeking nominations for the 2014 Story County Youth Volunteer Awards. Nominations are sought in elementary school, middle school, high school, college and community categories. Anyone under the age of 25 who has done outstanding volunteer service in the past year can be nominated. The deadline for nominations is Friday, March 28. A nomination form can be downloaded from the Volunteer Center Web site at www.vcstory.org, or is available by contacting the Volunteer Center of Story County at 515-268-5323.
“I am so inspired by what young people are doing right here in Story County to make their community a better place,” said Shellie Orngard, executive director of the Volunteer Center of Story County. “The Story County Youth Volunteer Awards is an opportunity to say ‘thank you’ to them, to tell their stories and to inspire a wider audience.”
An awards reception will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 29, in the Sun Room of Iowa State University’s Memorial Union. Honored volunteers will receive an award signed by Gov. Branstad.
The Volunteer Center of Story County is a nonprofit organization that inspires, educates and mobilizes volunteers in addressing community needs. It is a partner agency of United Way of Story County and is a member of the Points of Light Institute and the HandsOn Network, the largest volunteer and citizen action network in the country.
Iowa State University’s Student Activities Center advises student organizations and helps them with leadership resources, training and development, and activity planning.
