Dr. Donald Lewis, Iowa State University Extension entomologist, will present the program, “What’s the Buzz? The Periodical Cicadas,” at 5:30. The fee is $7 for adults and free for children 5 years old or younger.
Four Seasons Family Series – All About Bluebirds, Saturday, March 1, 9-11 a.m.
Some of the best bluebird trackers in the state, Marlene and Bruce Ehrseman, will lead this family class. Come find out what makes bluebirds keep coming back each spring. They will talk about all kinds of bluebird behaviors – migration, scouting, nesting, feeding, fledging and back to migration. Learn what you can do to support these beautiful birds as their habitat continues to shrink. Every family will assemble and take home a bluebird nesting box. The fee is $10 per family per class for Arboretum members and $15 per family non-members. Registration deadline is Feb 27.
Second Saturday Series – Top Ten Trees and Shrubs and Water-wise Gardening, Saturday, March 8, 9-11 a.m.
Join Joe McNally (horticulture project manager) and learn about the latest and greatest trees and shrubs for the Iowa garden. Also learn the techniques to water-wise gardening. The fee is $10 for members and $15 for non-members; registration deadline is March 6.
