The Story County Amateur Radio Club (SCARC) invites all licensed and prospective radio operators to a video presentation about the 2005 DXpedition to the Kerguelen Islands, on Thursday, Oct. 3, at 7:30 p.m. in Conference Room D of Mary Greeley Medical Center (near the north entrance). With the descriptive name of the Desolation Islands, these French islands lie in the Indian Ocean, 2,000 miles from the nearest populated land. The expedition by an international team of amateur radio operators was to establish a temporary radio station to make contacts with thousands of ham operators around the world. Professional photographer James Brooks documented the ocean trip, set-up and operations from this isolated location. The presentation is free and open to the public. Annual memberships in the Story County Amateur Radio Club are available for $10 per year.
