The Story County Amateur Radio Club invites current and potential ham radio operators to its Thursday, May 1, meeting to plan Field Day. This national 24-hour event will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 28. The Story County club will install a temporary short-wave station and make radio contacts with other stations in the U.S., Canada and other countries, in a demonstration of long-distance communications under emergency conditions. Thursday’s meeting will start at 7:30 p.m. in Conference Room D at Mary Greeley Medical Center (MGMC), near the north entrance. Topics to be covered include selection of location, specification of radios and antennas, emergency power sources, computerized logging, publicity and scheduling of operators. The meeting is free and open to the public. Annual memberships in the Story County Amateur Radio Club are available for $10 per year.
