Annual meeting of the Madrid Home held

The 37th Annual Meeting of the Madrid Home for the Aging was held on Thursday, March 20. More than 90 delegates, board members and guests enjoyed a meal in the Madrid Home’s dining room prior to the meeting. Delegates in attendance were from the 28 churches that have membership in the Madrid Home.

Shari Lehman, Board Chair, called the official meeting to order and thanked all that had worked on behalf of Madrid Home Communities this past year. She indicated that the Madrid Home is well known for its quality care and ability to meet residents’ needs in a variety of settings. She gave special recognition to the staff at the Madrid Home, Cedars and Ballard Creek for their continued efforts to deliver quality care to residents.

Shari presented Jerry Anderson a recognition plaque for serving six years on the Board of Directors including four years as Secretary. Craig Whitney, though absent, was recognized for serving three years on the Board.

Shari also presented plaques recognizing Madrid Home Communities’ Volunteers of the Year to Connie Martin from the Cedars and Shirley Snyder from Ballard Creek.

Rev. Marcus Badgley, Board Vice-Chair, reported on the Board’s activities for 2013. Don Catus presented the Treasurer’s Report. Don reported that the Madrid Home had a deficit of $143,976 for 2013 and that despite the loss, all long term debt principle and interest payments were on time and complete. The Madrid Home provided $67,839 in direct charity care and an additional $63,350 in charity services at the Cedars and Ballard Creek in 2013. The 2014 budget projects revenues of $11,591,512 and expenses of $11,681,585 in the General Operating Fund.

Angela Tharp gave a report on Friends of the Madrid Home, special fundraising events and several remodeling projects funded by the events. Keith Kudej, President/CEO, reported on the Madrid Home’s focus on charity, marketing and continued commitment to quality and customer service.

The following were elected to three-year terms on the Madrid Home Board: Lynn Maves, Immanuel Lutheran Church, Ogden (Incumbent); Dr. Kevin Rahner, Palestine Lutheran Church, Huxley (Incumbent); William Britton, Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Slater; and Paul Ouverson, Augustana Lutheran Church, Boone.

The Madrid Home for the Aging Board officers for 2013-2014 are: Rev. Marcus Badgley, Chairman; Kevin Houlette, Vice-Chairman; Don Catus, Treasurer; Dr. Kevin Rahner, Secretary; and Keith J. Kudej, President/CEO.
