This year, the Collins-Maxwell Elementary has been filled with the beautiful sound of xylophones, metallophones and glockenspiels. Thanks to the work of P.I.E. (Partners in Education, our parent association), funds provided by an Alliant Community Grant, monetary gifts and fundraising money, we were able to order six new Orff instruments for all preschool through fifth-grade students to use in music class. These instruments help students develop important fine motor skills and an aural awareness of beat and pitch. These instruments also help students understand important musical elements like dynamics, orchestration, form, rhythm and melody. More importantly, these instruments provide an opportunity for students to collaborate with one another and to build a healthier school climate. We are so grateful for the funds provided by the Alliant Community Grant and for the opportunities these instruments provide for our students.
