In the summer, new prairie plants are blooming each week! To see rare blooming plants, join the Iowa Prairie Network and Story County Conservation for a series of evening prairie walks at Doolittle Prairie this summer. This month’s prairie walk will be held Thursday, June 26 beginning at 7 p.m. Doolittle Prairie (14249 560th Ave) is located south of Story City (1.25 miles south of county road E-18 on 560th Avenue). The walks are free and open to the public; no registration is required.

Participants will enjoy viewing the largest prairie remnant in Story County with prairie enthusiast Lloyd Crim. Crim will share interesting facts about the plants and highlight new plants in bloom. Bring a camera to take pictures of rare prairie foliage! Participants are encouraged to dress appropriately for the walks, including sturdy walking shoes, long pants, and bug spray.

Future evening prairie walks are scheduled for July 24 and August 21. All walks start at 7 p.m. at Doolittle Prairie.

For more information about this or other programs, contact the Story County Conservation Center at 515-232-2516 (8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday), email conservation@storycounty.com or visit www.storycountyconservation.org.
