Early voting now available for Nov. 5 city elections

All eligible voters residing within Story County cities can now vote at the Story County Auditor’s Office. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The auditor’s office is located on the second floor of the Story County Administration Building, 900 Sixth St., Nevada.

The last day to vote in person at the auditor’s office is Monday, Nov. 4, UNLESS the polls open at noon for your city. If your city’s polls open at noon on Nov. 5, absentee voting will be available in the auditor’s office from 8 a.m.-11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 5.

Voters can request a mailed absentee ballot by filling out the “Official Iowa Absentee Ballot Request Form.” These forms are available on the Story County website at www.storycountyiowa.gov under the Auditor and Elections link.

An absentee ballot received in the mail can be returned by the following methods:

Mail - an envelope is provided and postage is pre-paid. The postmark must be no later than Monday, Nov. 4.

In person - you may deliver your ballot to the county auditor’s office. The deadline is 8 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 5.

By Designee - have someone else to mail or deliver the ballot for you. The instructions found in your absentee ballot package will include a receipt which you may use for this purpose.

Polling place locations for city elections: Please verify your location by checking the Story County website at www.storycountyiowa.gov under the Auditor and Elections link, or call 515-382-7210. The deadline to register to vote for the city election is 5 p.m., Friday, Oct. 25 in the auditor’s office. After that date, Election Day Registration procedures will apply.
