Experience ice climbing in Iowa

If you are interested in an ice climbing adventure close to home, join Story County Conservation on Saturday, Jan. 25, as we travel to rural Cedar Falls to climb an ice-covered grain silo. Participants will depart from McFarland Park (56461 180th St.) northeast of Ames at 9 a.m., eat lunch in downtown Cedar Falls, ice climb for a few hours and return around 5 p.m.

Participants are asked to dress in layers and wear appropriate winter clothing. There is a warming shed at the I.C.E. (Iowa Climbing Experience) facility. Fee is $50 and includes transportation, gear (safety ropes, harnesses, gloves, and shoes) and snacks. Participants will need to bring money for lunch in Cedar Falls.

Participants who must be back by 5 p.m. should not attend.

Registration deadline (with $50 fee) is 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 17. Call 232-2516 or email conservation@storycounty.com to register. Space is limited, so register early!
