Former Huxley resident honored for volunteerism

This past week, Bonnie Alley of Colo, was featured by Volunteer Iowa as one of its “50 Faces of Volunterism” winners.

Alley, who was born in Huxley and graduated from Ballard High School, has been an active member of her community, volunteering more than 20 hours a week. She has served on the Colo-Nesco PTA for many years, serving as president for four years. In 2013, she founded the Iowa chapter of Icing Smiles, a nonprofit organization that brings custom cakes to critically ill children and their siblings. She is the state representative, state development representative and national trainer for that organization, and she put together a successful 5K fundraising race this past fall for the organization.

Bonnie and her husband own Alley’s Pizza in Nevada. Bonnie also serves as webmaster for the Colo-Nesco Schools, has done daycare since 1997 and runs a bakery called Simply Delish.
