LSI (Lutheran Services in Iowa) will host a bi-monthly parent support group starting Monday, Sept. 8, from 6-8 p.m. at LSI’s People Place, located at 219 6th St. in Ames.
The group meets every other Monday and is offered to families of children ages 0 to 5. Child care and a light meal are provided at no cost.
“This is a great opportunity for parents to begin expanding their support network and meet other parents experiencing similar situations,” said Eric Garrett, LSI program supervisor. “In our first meeting, we’ll spend time getting to know each other and discuss what topics we might learn about together in our future meetings.”
Trained staff will lead the group, using the Nurturing Parenting Program curriculum developed by Stephen Bavolek, a recognized leader in the fields of child abuse prevention and parenting education. Topics will include nutrition, play, discipline, social skills, healthy communication, stress management and child development.
LSI offers additional parent support groups, education and resources through its People Place family resource center. For more information about People Place or to sign up for the nurturing parent group, contact Eric Garrett at 515-233-1677 or eric.garrett@LSIowa.org.
LSI is one of Iowa’s largest human services agencies and impacts tens of thousands of Iowans annually through child abuse prevention, services for families and youth in crisis, services for people with disabilities and refugee services.
