LSI, Iowa State to hold glow run benefiting area kids, families

LSI (Lutheran Services in Iowa) is partnering with Iowa State University and the Ames community to kick off ISU’s homecoming week with a glow run benefitting local children and families on Saturday, Oct. 4.

The glow run, themed “Ames Light Up the Night,” marks the 19th annual Blue Sky Day 5K, an Ames community tradition benefiting LSI’s services to children and families. This year’s fun run will include optional glow in the dark accessories and black light stations along the race route.

In 2013, more than 2,000 runners participated and raised over $33,000 for LSI.

“We’re excited to continue this partnership with ISU Homecoming and the Ames community with the added fun of a glow run this year,” said Jason Lee, LSI advancement officer. “For nearly 20 years, Blue Sky Day has been a tremendous source of support for local kids and families who partner with LSI for mental health services, parent education, crisis child care and support for people with disabilities.”

The event, which isorganized in partnership with ISU’s Homecoming Central Committee, is open to all members of the community. The cost to participate is $25, which includes an event t-shirt for those who register online by Sept. 15.

Participants can view race details and register online at www.LSIowa.org/blueskyday now through Sept. 30 or at the event. Check-in will open at 8 p.m. before the race begins at 9 p.m. at the ISU Alumni Center, 420 Beach Ave.
