The Hair Hut in Collins is now offering consignment services. Judi Tiffany, owner, has expanded her salon to include a wide variety of jewelry, clothing and accessories. She is currently accepting consignments of used clothing, shoes and accessories, in addition to handmade crafts and jewelry items.
Tiffany purchased the salon from Rich McQuiston, former owner of Family of Hair, in mid-April of last year. After renovating the space to fit her business goals, she originally opened up the salon to provide haircuts for men, women and children, as well as other beauty services. She acquired a tanning bed to expand her services and opened the consignment area in January 2014.
While looking around her basement, Tiffany, like many parents, recognized that clothes accumulate. She had become weary of taking items to the Salvation Army and realized that other families in the area may have been struggling with the same dilemma. “People will have a place to take their stuff and maybe make a little bit, too,” she said of the new venture.
Tiffany is a long-time resident of the area, having made her home in Baxter the last 10 years. She developed a dream to have her own salon and began to save money on the off chance that an opportunity would arise. While waiting for the perfect location to come available, she began working at some local chains to get back into today’s styles and, while banking in Collins, a friend informed her that McQuiston may finally have been interested in retiring from his long-standing business. Many of his customers have stayed, and with expanded services, she’s hoping to grow her clientele as people realize that she’s open for business.
“I think it’s one of the best things to happen in Collins in a long time,” said Betty Long, one of Tiffany’s regular customers. Collins’ Main Street has seen an initiative of growth and restoration in the last few years that seems to have been received very well.
