Joseph Kenneth Flynn of Alleman has achieved academic ranking in the top 2 percent of students in the College of Business at Iowa State University. Flynn is a sophomore at ISU.
Two Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) students from Polk City have received scholarships from the DMACC Foundation for the spring semester: Hannah Erickson, $500 General - District Wide and Emma Potter, $1000 Golf.
Spc. Kenneth E. Miller, III, of Maxwell, a member of the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 19th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry, was among 19 soldiers competing for the Iowa Army National Guard’s “Best Warrior” title, March 21-23.
The Iowa Army National Guard Best Warrior Competition, which tests a soldier’s mental, physical and emotional toughness and endurance, is held annually at Camp Dodge. Soldiers participated in an array of events, including the Army physical fitness test, rifle and pistol qualification, a 12-mile road march with a 25-pound ruck sack, and land navigation with a map and compass. Soldiers also participated in a written exam, which tested their military knowledge, and faced a personal review board, which evaluated their appearance, military bearing and knowledge of critical Army topics.
