A Very Special Fair Tree

Lauren Rosburg of Gilbert (left) and Hannah Lee of Slater (right) talk with Deanna Collins in front of a special tree that was planted July 21 just outside the horse barn at the Story County Fairgrounds. The tree is planted in memory of Scott Hurd, who lived in Roland and was the 4-H dad of eight Story County 4-H’ers, three of whom are still active members. Collins said Hurd died of cancer; the Story County Horse Project group raised funds to purchase a tree and is still raising funds to add a bench by the tree, all in his memory. “Scott was one of those fathers who represents what 4-H is all about,” Collins said.
