Douglas John Schuessler was born April 6, 1966 in Des Moines, the son of Jim and Janet Schuessler. He passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, June 1, 2014 of an aortic aneurysm.
Doug is survived by his parents Jim and Janet Schuessler; wife Maria Schuessler; four children, Madison, Jimmie, Sheridan and Landon Schuessler; granddaughter Keeley Truby; siblings, Vernon Schuessler, Kim (Tim) Manning, Paula Eichinger and Darcy (Glenn) Gill; in-laws George and Nanette Coon; nieces and nephews and many other loving relatives and close friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jim and Margaret Elwell and Howard and Gladys Schuessler.
The thing Doug cherished the most was his family. Doug enjoyed family vacations at the lake, attending his children’s sporting and school activities and coming to the party shed for family gatherings. He was so proud of his children and loved sharing in their successes.
Doug had a passion for horses and spent many years raising and caring for draft horses with his dad, Jim. Doug enjoyed anything outdoors, hunting, fishing and riding anything motorized. He also enjoyed music. At a younger age, Doug played the drums and just recently taught himself how to play the guitar. Doug, his brother and friends liked tinkering with anything mechanical. Doug’s biggest gift was his generosity and kindness. He was constantly doing for others, never complaining and always smiling. He was loved and adored by all who met him and he gave us that same love in return. He will be missed desperately, but will live on in our memories and in the legacy of his children.
Services were held on Friday, June 6, 2014 at Salem United Church of Christ in Alleman, Iowa.
