To the editor:
When I was preparing for the birth of my first child 24 years ago, I had all the dreams and expectations of the typical parent-to-be. I had little experience with people with disabilities and so was unprepared for the new world my daughter’s arrival pulled us into. Actually, pulled is a nice word. My memory is more of being sucked in, slammed around, whirled about and tired out. But there was so much joy, too. One of the positives was support from the Story County community.
During the United Way campaign, I want to urge this community to keep up that support – both in personal and financial ways. When life changes dreams and expectations, United Way-supported organizations are vital.
From someone who knows and appreciates,
