Old Settler Sez: Friday will be packed with events

Hello, everyone! Here I am again. It is now less than a month before the big Maxwell’s Old Settler Picnic. It doesn’t seem possible, but it is.

As I said last week, this week will be the listing of Friday’s events on Aug. 2. There may be a few changes, so look closely.

Reviewing Thursday’s events, since there are special plans for the kids: 6-7:30 p.m., Kids’ Fun Dance, with Dr. Fever, ages 12 and under; 8-10, Teen Dance, ages 13 and up, sponsored by the Mother’s Club, admission is a food pantry donation.

Events for Friday are as follows: 8 a.m., registration for adult volleyball, with the tournament beginning at 9; the museum will be open by appointment, starting at 9, by calling Jerry White at 387-1127 or Arlene Witmer at 387-8742; the church food stand will open at 11 a.m. (the stand was built in the early 1950s by workers from all the area churches, and proceeds from the stand help support church activities, events and extra church expenses throughout the year); 2 p.m. will be Pedal Pull registration, with the pull taking place at 2:30, sponsored by Ryerson Implement, for ages 4-11; inflatables will be available from 4-9 p.m.; at 5 p.m. the Beer Garden opens; “Haywire” (variety music) will play at 5:30; the all-school reunion begins at 6 p.m. in the Community Center; the rodeo starts at 7:30 p.m. at Walker Arena; the Dance runs from 9-12, with music by “Nothing Special” (that is really the band’s name) and the Legion Auxiliary will serve breakfast from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m.

I must be movin’ on. Lord willin’, I’ll be talking to you again next week about events for Saturday. Always remember, “Life’s most urgent question is ‘What are you doing for others?”” Martin Luther King, Junior
