WAVERLY – The Ballard girls’ golf team finished the season by shooting its best 18-hole score at the Class 4A regional second round meet at the Waverly Municipal Golf Course Tuesday.
The Bombers shot a 390 to place seventh out of 12 teams at the meet. Cedar Rapids Xavier and Charles City were the two teams to qualify for state as Xavier won with a score of 332 and Charles City took runner-up with a 348.
Charcey Petersen stepped up and delivered a great individual outing in her final career meet. Petersen carded an 86 to place sixth individually, just one spot shy of qualifying individually for state.
Shelby Petersen also shot under 100 for Ballard as she delivered a solid round of 91. Madison Houge finished with a 105 and Kaylee Klunder added a 108 as the other counted Bomber scores; Kelcie Bohning tacked on a 115.
Charles City’s Megan Joerger was the medalist with a 77 and Waverly-Shell Rock’s Bailee Wallace and Xavier’s Maddie Bertsch also each came through with a 77. Xavier’s Grace Winkler took fourth with an 80 and Grinnell’s Sarah Frischmeyer was the final individual state qualifier with a fifth-place score of 82.
