SLATER – A big rally enabled the Ballard baseball team to pick up its first victory of the season Friday as the Bombers downed Madrid by a 10-6 score at Nite Hawk Field in Slater.
Ballard fell behind 6-0 going into the bottom of the third. Madrid had a five-run second inning to take control early.
But the Bomber bats woke up to the tune of three runs in the bottom of the third. The Bombers added two more runs in the fourth and another in the fifth to tie the game.
In the bottom of the sixth, Ballard completed its rally with a four-run outburst. Meanwhile, pitchers Quinton Erickson, Jaden Moody and Coy Baker combined to keep Madrid off the scoreboard over the final four innings to secure the victory.
Ballard finished with 10 hits. Five of those base knocks went for extra bases as the Bombers tallied three doubles and one triple and home run apiece.
Kenny Randolph was 3-for-4 with a double, three steals, one run and two RBI and Mitchell Broer went 2-for-3 with a home run and two runs and RBI apiece to lead Ballard. Spencer Struve doubled, scored twice and drove in a run; Moody tripled and scored; Jacob Nethers hit a pinch-hit RBI double; Nathan Carlin finished 1-for-3 with one run and RBI apiece and Isaiah Johnson singled and scored.

OGDEN – The inability to get timely hits hurt Ballard in a 5-2 season-opening loss to Ogden May 28 at Ogden.

Nathan Carlin singled and scored, Jacob Nethers singled and drove in a run, Kobe Schulze knocked in one run and Patrick Gray scored once for the Bombers. Kenny Randolph went 2-for-4 and Matt Poots, Coy Baker, Landon Manfull, Isaiah Johnson and Lane Volkman each chipped in one single for Ballard.
