Ballard falls at B-F

BONDURANT – The Ballard girls’ soccer team was handed a 5-2 loss by Bondurant-Farrar May 22 in Bondurant.

Ballard was overpowered on defense by the No. 13 team in Class 1A as Bondurant-Farrar fired off 26 shots. The Bombers couldn’t survive the onslaught, despite a game effort, falling to 6-4 on the season.

Emily Knittel scored both Bomber goals in a losing effort. Olivia Denham, Emily Knuth, Jessica Noonan, Sydney Sinclair and Abbie Tidman each scored once for Bondurant-Farrar.

GREENFIELD – Ballard came up just short against a solid Nodaway Valley/Adair-Casey/West Central Valley team May 20 in Greenfield as the Bombers suffered a 3-2 setback.

Emily Knittel and Abby McGee each netted one goal apiece for Ballard in the loss. The Bombers gave up 18 shots, suffering their third loss of the season.

Nodaway Valley/AC/WCV picked up two goals from Josi Ocheltree and one from Christina Boss.

HUXLEY – Ballard pulled off a 3-1 home victory over Raccoon River Conference rival Carlisle May 19 in Huxley.

Emily Knittel scored two goals and Rachel Watters added another to help the Bombers get past the Wildcats.

A tough Ballard defense kept the Wildcats in check for most of the game. Jenna Castle scored the lone goal for Carlisle.

HUXLEY – Ballard was unable to complete a season sweep of non-conference rival North Polk May 15 as the Bombers were handed a 3-2 loss by the Comets in Huxley.

Ballard had defeated North Polk by a 5-2 score in Alleman on April 24. The Bombers used a strong start to win that game, but it wasn’t the case the second time around as North Polk played tougher defense for the full 80 minutes.

Emily Knittel scored both goals for Ballard. Hannah Becker scored twice for North Polk and Joy Smith added one goal for the Comets.
