HUXLEY – Ballard improved to 2-0 in dual meets Thursday as the Bombers handed Carlisle a 56-18 drubbing in their home opener at Huxley.
Ballard fell behind 6-0 after losing two matches by decision. Pins from Tyler Kyhl at 195 pounds and Alex Silberstein at 285 plus a major decision victory by Easton Moody at 220 pushed Ballard in front, but Carlisle won the next two matches by fall to reclaim the lead at 18-16.
Ethan Estabrooks turned the tide in Ballard’s favor for good with a quick pin at 120 as he stuck the Wildcats’ Kenny McCaughey in just 26 seconds. That victory started a 40-0 Bomber run to end the meet.
“It was a good win,” Ballard head coach Nick Britton said. “The kids fought hard and that was a better performance than our last outing. That’s what we’ve got to do – continue to improve until the end of the season.”
Having a full lineup has paid huge dividends for Ballard this year. In addition to their perfect start in duals the Bombers also won the Eagle Grove Invitational last Saturday after scoring points in every weight class.
“You can do a lot of stuff when you fill out weight classes,” Britton said. “When you score points in every weight class good things will happen.”
Louie Howlett (126), Mitchell Broer (138), Mark Goldberg (152) and Andrew Rasmussen (160) followed Estabrooks with victories by fall. Kenton Brekke earned a major decision win at 145 and Nathan Macki received a forfeit at 132 for the Bombers.
