Ballard rolls to three home wins in girls’ tennis

HUXLEY – The Ballard girls’ tennis team capped a busy week by crushing Des Moines East, 11-0, Monday in Huxley.

The Bombers scored their third home victory of the week to improve to 8-0 on the season. All three wins came via an 11-0 shutout.

On Monday Ballard won all 11 matches in straight sets. The Bombers were never seriously threatened, posting a shutout in a total of 11 sets.

Rylie Cahill picked up a pair of shutouts in the No. 4 singles match and Ballard also blanked East in two doubles matches. Emily Jurgensen and Olivia Astarita pulled off a pair of 6-0 victories in the No. 3 doubles match and Nicole Kling and Kathryn Holly scored two 6-0 triumphs in the No. 5 match.

Alex Petersen and Meredith Ossian won the No. 2 doubles match by 6-0 and 6-1 scores. Shania Schmidt and Hannah Astarita also won by 6-0 and 6-1 scores in the No. 4 match.

Cahill and Brenna Ripp claimed 6-3 and 6-0 victories in the No. 1 doubles match.

Ripp, Jurgensen and Petersen won the Nos. 1, 2 and 3 singles matches. Ripp won by scores of 6-2 and 6-1, Jurgensen pulled off a pair of 6-1 victories and Petersen prevailed by margins of 6-1 and 6-3.

In the No. 5 singles match, Ossian waltzed to 6-1 and 6-0 victories. Olivia Astarita pulled off 6-0 and 6-1 triumphs in the No. 6 match.

Jurgensen and Astarita (B) defeated Hackett and Tam (DME); 6-0, 6-0. 4. Shania Schmidt and Hannah Astarita (B) defeated Randolph and Le (DME); 6-0, 6-1. 5. Nicole Kling and Kathryn Holly (B) defeated Doan and Syanoraksha (DME); 6-0, 6-0.

HUXLEY – Ballard cruised past Webster City at home Friday as the Bombers swept every match in an 11-0 victory.

Ballard was rarely threatened on the day as Webster City only got closer than three in two sets.

Brenna Ripp faced the biggest challenge for Ballard in the No. 1 singles match.

Ripp took on Webster City’s Lynne Chalfant and she overcame a 4-1 deficit in the first set to pull off a 7-5 victory. Ripp then held off Chalfant by a 6-4 score in the second set to secure the victory.

In the No. 1 doubles match, Ripp and Emily Jurgensen teamed to sweep Chalfant and Courtney Lampman. The Bomber team won the opening set by a decisive 6-2 score, then had to hold on for a 6-4 win in the second set.

Jurgensen swept Lampman by scores of 6-2 and 6-3 in the No. 2 singles match. Alex Petersen won the No. 3 match over Olivia Tasler by identical 6-1 scores.

Meredith Ossian turned in the most dominant display for Ballard in singles play. Ossian claimed a pair of 6-0 victories over Webster City’s Ashley Richardson.

Rylee Cahill and Olivia Astarita both earned 6-0 and 6-1 victories in the Nos. 4 and 6 matches respectively.

In doubles play, Petersen and Cahill blanked Richardson and Jordann Nagle with a pair of 6-0 victories in the No. 2 match. Ossian and Astarita won the No. 3 match over Sierra Anderson and Olincia Padierno with a pair of 6-1 victories.

Sydney Buchholtz and Hannah Astarita gave Ballard 6-2 and 6-1 victories over Tasler and Rihanna Wood in the No. 4 doubles match. Nicole Kling and Shania Schmidt won the No. 5 match by 6-2 and 6-0 margins over Webster City’s Megan Nilles and Megan Carpenter.

The victory put Ballard at 7-0 on the season.

HUXLEY – Ballard rolled to its sixth consecutive victory May 1 on a cold and windy day in Huxley as the Bombers blanked Saydel by an 11-0 score.

Ballard swept singles play by an average score of 8-2. The Bombers averaged a winning score of 8-1 in doubles play as they improved to 6-0.

In singles competition, Emily Jurgensen and Alex Petersen both recorded an 8-0 shutout and Rylee Cahill picked up an 8-1 victory. Jurgensen defeated Saydel’s Sydney Samples in the No. 2 match, Petersen won the No. 3 match over Mackenzie Miller and Cahill whipped the Eagles’ Casey Brown in the No. 4 match.

Meredith Ossian and Olivia Astarita won by identical 8-3 scores in the Nos. 5 and 6 matches respectively. In the No. 1 match, Brenna Ripp was given a good fight by Saydel’s Mackenzie Carter before prevailing by an 8-6 score.

In doubles play Sydney Buchholtz and Hannah Astarita scored an 8-0 victory in the No. 4 match. Petersen and Cahill picked up an 8-1 victory in the No. 2 match.

Ossian and Olivia Astarita won by the same score in the No. 3 match and Nicole Kling and Shania Schmidt also scored an 8-1 victory in the No. 5 match.

Ripp and Jurgensen were given the stiffest test for Ballard in doubles play, but they still won the No. 1 match with ease. The Bomber tandem prevailed by an 8-3 margin.
