Ballard starts off 1-2 in boys’ soccer

HUXLEY – The Ballard boys’ soccer team suffered a hard-fought 3-2 loss at the hands of Des Moines North Monday in Huxley.

The Bombers fired off 12 shots, including seven shots on goal, and keeper Alex Silberstein had 22 saves. But the Bombers just weren’t able to execute well enough on both sides to knock off the Polar Bears.

Andrew Rasmussen and Conner VanMaureen each netted one unassisted goal for Ballard in the loss. Brandon Kane had three shots on goal, VanMaureen finished with two and Rasmussen and Spencer Struve ended up with one apiece.

The loss put Ballard at 1-2 on the season.

STUART – Ballard earned its first victory of the season April 15 in Stuart as the Bombers blanked West Central Valley by a 3-0 margin.

Ballard only had three shots on goal, but the Bombers made the most of them, improving to 1-1 on the season. Spencer Struve had a hand in all three Bomber goals as he scored twice and handed out one assist.

Brandon Kane came up with the other Bomber goal. Ballard keeper Alex Silberstein made eight saves to help preserve the shutout.

WEBSTER CITY – Ballard opened the season on a losing note at Webster City April 10 as the Bombers couldn’t get anything going offensively in a 2-0 loss.

Ballard gave up nine shots on goal and the Bombers only totaled four. Alex Silberstein made 10 saves at keeper in a losing effort for the Bombers.
