Bomber boys finish third at Atlantic

ATLANTIC – The Ballard boys’ golf team turned in a strong third-place finish out of 11 teams at the Atlantic Invitational Tuesday at the Atlantic Golf and Country Club.

The Bombers shot a 320 over 18 holes to beat Harlan by one stroke for third. Creston won the team title with a score of 299 and Atlantic was second with a team round of 310.

Nash Bucher had the best day individually for Ballard as he shot a 74 to finish five strokes out of first place. Nick Hartman carded an 80, Mike McVicker delivered an 82 and Ty Mason and Mason Jensen both shot an 84 to round out the scoring for Ballard.

Sage Fitchko also competed for Ballard, carding an 87.

Denison-Schleswig’s Parker Eller won a playoff over Creston’s Carson Whittington to take medalist honors after each golfer shot a 69.

Final team scores (18 holes): 1. Creston 299, 2. Atlantic 310, 3. Ballard 320, 4. Harlan 321, 5. Denison-Schleswig 325, 6. Shenandoah 329, 7. Winterset 334, 8. Kuemper Catholic 343, 9. Glenwood 360, 10. Clarinda 376, 11. Red Oak 377.
