Bomber girls run win streak to five

HUXLEY – The Ballard girls’ soccer team picked up its fifth consecutive victory May 12 with a 5-2 home victory over Boone at Rich Strouse Field in Huxley.

Ballard received goals from four different individuals in the victory. Emily Knittel set the pace with two scores and Abby McGee, Sydney Smith and Rachel Watters tacked on one goal apiece.

Knittel and McGee each added one assist on offense. Bomber keeper Maggie Raes made three saves to help the Bombers improve to 5-1 on the season.

Katie Commins and Mallory Erb each scored one goal for Boone in a losing effort.

TAMA – Ballard did just enough to get past South Tama May 10 in Tama as the Bombers earned a 2-1 road victory over the Trojans.

Emily Knittel scored both goals to help Ballard earn its fourth win a row. Abby McGee and Sydney Tatum each assisted on one of Knittel’s goals.

Ballard keeper Maggie Raes made two saves to help get her team over the top. South Tama’s only goal came off a penalty kick by Samantha Earley.

PERRY – Ballard ran its win streak to three games May 6 with a 4-1 road victory over Perry.

The Bombers received key offensive contributions from Rachel Watters, Sydney Smith and Emily Knittel. Maggie Raes also played a strong game at keeper for the Bombers.

Watters accounted for two Bomber goals. Smith and Knittel scored one goal apiece and Smith also dished out one assist.

Raes ended up making eight saves on the night and she was backed by strong play from the Bomber back four on defense.
