Bombers win RRC title in boys’ golf

ALTOONA – The Ballard boys’ golf team repeated as Raccoon River Conference champions after defeating Adel-Desoto-Minburn and Winterset by four strokes in a competitive conference meet Monday at the Terrace Hills Golf Course in Altoona.

Ballard shot a 317 over 18 holes to top the 321 scored by both ADM and Winterset for the conference championship. Boone was close behind in fourth place with a score of 324 and Carroll also hung around, placing fifth out of eight teams with a 330.

Ty Mason stepped up to lead Ballard individually. The senior shot a 78 as one of two Bombers to finish under 80 on the day.

Nick Hartman carded a 79 to turn in the second-best Bomber score on the day. Mason Jensen and Sage Fitchko each shot an 80 as the other two counted scores for Ballard.

Nash Bucher and Mike McVicker also competed for Ballard. Bucher shot an 82 and McVicker carded an 85.

Ballard will compete in the Class 3A sectional meet at Boone this Friday. The meet will take place at the Cedar Pointe Golf Course and it is set to start at 9 a.m.

Final team scores (18 holes): 1. Ballard 317, 2. ADM 321, 3. Winterset 321, 4. Boone 324, 5. Carroll 330, 6. Bondurant-Farrar 352, 7. Perry 353, 8. Carlisle 355.

AMES – The Ballard boys’ golf team placed third at the Gilbert Invitational Saturday at the Ames Golf and Country Club.

Ballard shot a 316 over 18 holes to tie Humboldt for third among eight competing teams. Gilbert won the meet with a score of 311 and South Hamilton tallied a score of 314 to place second.

Sage Fitchko stepped up with the best individual score for Ballard with a strong round of 78. Nick Hartman and Mason Jensen also shot under 80 with identical rounds of 79.

Ty Mason carded an 80 to turn in the final counted score for Ballard.

South Hamilton’s Braxton Risetter was the medalist after shooting an impressive round of 69. Gilbert’s Garret Jensen was medalist runner-up with a 73.
