CMB girls claim team championship at Raider Invite

BAXTER – Depth helped the Collins-Maxwell-Baxter girls’ track team cruise to the team championship at the Raider Coed Invitational Monday in Baxter.

The Raiders didn’t win a single event, but they had eight silver and six bronze medals. CMB scored 28 top-six finishes, totaling 140 points to easily beat South Hardin’s runner-up score of 88.

Bridget Hurley produced two individual silvers for CMB. Hurley completed the 400-meter hurdles in 1:14.78 and she ran the open 400 in 1:02.85.

Brittany Peterson added a runner-up time of 17:48 in the 100 hurdles. In field events Abbie Haupert was second in the discus with a throw of 110 feet, nine inches and Jenna Ziesman took the silver in the long jump with a jump of 14-0.25.

The Raider 4 X 800 relay team of Anne Deutsch, Kayla Hennick, Hayley Leonard and Shelby Berg ran a 10:34.16 to claim second. Ziesman, Taylor Ross, Jenna O’Hara and Peterson won a silver in the shuttle hurdle relay with a time of 1:16.91 and Deutsch, Alex Broderick, Hennick and Hurley teamed up to place second in the 4 X 400 with a time of 4:22.74.

Berg took third in both the 800 and 1,500 with respective times of 2:40.92 and 5:38.13. Ziesman was third in the 100 hurdles with a :17.93 showing, Toni Spencer was third in the 100 with a :13.47 showing and Broderick won the bronze in the high jump after clearing 5-0.

Courtney Ubben and Payge Jurgens were fourth and fifth in the shot put with respective throws of 36-6 and 35-8. Hennick came in fourth in the 400 with a time of 1:05.39, Maddy Poage ran a fourth-place time of :13.77 in the 100 and Broderick was fourth in the 400 hurdles at 1:17.92.

Hennick, Jurgens, Haupert and Girard ran a fourth-place time of 2:05.73 in the sprint medley and Poage, Jurgens, Ross and Spencer came in fourth in the 4 X 100 with a time of :55.34.

Spencer also took fifth in the long jump and Hurley was fifth in the high jump with respective jumps of 13-7.75 and 4-8. Spencer added a fifth-place time of :28.55 in the 200, Deutsch was fifth in the 800 at 2:42.57, Chasity Moody came in fifth in the 3,000 at 12:59.91 and Leonard had a fifth-place time of 5:41.58 in the 1,500.

Carter Larson, O’Hara, Jurgens and Haupert tacked on a fifth-place relay time of 2:01.16 in the 4 X 200.

Ballard came in fifth out of eight teams with 69 points. The Bombers didn’t have much depth, but they made the most of what they had, winning four events.

Val Charter took first in the long jump with a leap of 14-2.5 and Abby Kohut-Jackson won the 800 in 2:33.42 for the Bombers. Hannah Jensen added a victory in the 100 hurdles as she crossed the finish line in :17.45.

Charter and Kohut-Jackson teamed with Elli Godwin and Sydney Fisher to win the distance medley in 4:38.63. Sydney Smith, Madison McInory, Godwin and Fisher ran a 1:55.52 in the 4 X 200 to place second.

Godwin, Fisher, Smith and Gabie Doud also took third in the sprint medley with a 2:02.25 showing. Kohut-Jackson, Doud, Smith and Alexis Scharfenkamp won the bronze in the 4 X 800 with a time of 11:18.79 and Kohut-Jackson, Charter, Smith and Doud took third in the 4 X 400 with a 4:42.14 showing.
