CMB splits with C-M, Gilbert

BAXTER – The Collins-Maxwell-Baxter volleyball team split a pair of Heart of Iowa Conference matches with Colfax-Mingo and Gilbert Oct. 10 in Baxter.

The Raiders swept Colfax-Mingo in two sets and they were swept in three by Gilbert. CMB’s record moved to 11-8 overall and 3-4 in the HOIC at the conclusion of the triangular.

CMB took down Colfax-Mingo by scores of 21-12 and 21-16. The Raiders had 13 kills and seven errors in 40 attacks and they had a great serving match by going 40 of 41 with 10 aces.

Abbie Haupert had five kills, three digs and one ace, Alex Hlavacek totaled four kills and one dig and Abbey Appelgate registered three kills, eight digs and four aces for the Raiders. Bridget Hurley also had one kill and Payge Jurgens finished with the team’s only block.

Jurgens also went 11 of 11 serving with five aces. Mackenzie Schmitz finished with nine assists and six digs, Toni Spencer chipped in four digs and Bekah Pearson added three.

The Raiders suffered 25-16, 25-15 and 25-17 losses at the hands of Gilbert. They totaled 25 kills and 11 errors in 77 attacks, three blocks and two aces against the Tigers.

Jurgens had nine kills, three digs, one block and one ace and Haupert delivered seven kills, 10 digs, two blocks, one ace and one assist versus Gilbert. Hlavacek added five kills and two digs, Appelgate registered 11 digs and two kills, Hurley had six digs and two kills, Schmitz put up 18 assists and 10 digs and Pearson also had 10 digs.
