Comet boys finish seventh, Raiders 10th at HOIC meet

NP’s Berke Osborne places 14th individually

POLK CITY – The North Polk boys’ golf team produced one top-20 individual score and the Comets placed seventh out of 10 teams at the Heart of Iowa Conference meet Monday at the Tournament Club of Iowa.

North Polk had three golfers shoot under 90 over 18 holes, but none shot better than 84. That prevented the Comets from hanging with powerful South Hamilton, Prairie City-Monroe and Gilbert teams, and they also struggled to keep pace with Roland-Story, Nevada and Colfax-Mingo.

The Comets shot a 357 as a team. South Hamilton won with a 311, PCM took second with a 320, Gilbert carded a 323, Roland-Story finished with a 331 and Nevada and Colfax-Mingo recorded respective scores of 336 and 337.

North Polk’s score was good enough to beat Saydel’s eighth-place score by 24 strokes.

Berke Osborne was the top performer for North Polk. He shot a tremendous 37 on the front nine and finished with a 47 on the back to shoot an 84, placing him 14th overall.

Grant Lang turned in nine-hole rounds of 44 and 43 to shoot an 87 and J.D. Osborne carded a 41 on the front and 47 on the back to deliver an 88 for the Comets. Chris Flynn shot two identical rounds of 49 to score a 98 as the final scored Comet golfer.

Collins-Maxwell-Baxter came in last out of 10 teams with a team score of 474.

Garrett Husske turned in the best CMB score with a 108 as he produced a 54 on both the front and back. Brian Koon shot a 117 with nine-hole rounds of 57 and 60, Nick Carroll carded a 122 with respective rounds of 60 and 62 and Jacob Hennick recorded a 127 with a 58 on the front and 69 on the back for the Raiders.

South Hamilton’s Trevor Ullestad won medalist honors with a 70 as he delivered an impressive two-under par 33 on the front nine and 37 on the back. The Hawks’ Braxton Risetter was medalist runner up with a 73 and Gilbert’s Garret Jensen carded a 74 to place third.
