Four Bombers given all-RRC recognition

The Ballard girls’ basketball team produced four all-Raccoon River Conference players in 2013-14.

The Bombers’ Gabie Doud was chosen to the all-RRC first team, Emily Knittel and Kenzie Ihle made the second team and Abby McGee was honorable mention. All four players were key figures in helping Ballard go 11-3 in the RRC and share the conference championship with fellow Class 4A state qualifier Carlisle.

Doud averaged 16.4 points, shooting 55 percent from the field, 58 percent from 3-point range and 66 percent from the line in conference play. She also averaged 8.0 rebounds, 2.6 steals and 2.0 assists.

Joining Doud on the all-RRC first team were Carlisle’s Agatha Beier and Payton Keeney, Perry’s Claire Marburger and Maggie Lowe, Bondurant-Farrar’s Ashley Burrows, Boone’s Mariah McPartland and Winterset’s Mariah Criswell.

Knittel put up 12.3 points per game, shooting 43 percent from the field and 71 percent from the line in conference play. She also contributed 3.9 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.1 steals per game.

Ihle canned 20 3-pointers and averaged 4.9 points in conference play. She also chipped in 2.6 assists, 2.1 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game.

The rest of the all-RRC second team consisted of Adel-Desoto-Minburn’s Molly Jacobsen and Brianna Mueller, Carlisle’s Kaleigh Haus and Mary Grace Wachal, Bondurant-Farrar’s Madi Atzen and Boone’s Serena Sandvig.

Ballard senior guard Abby McGee was named all-RRC honorable mention.

McGee averaged 2.5 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.5 points in conference play. She also was the team’s defensive catalyst on the perimeter, picking up 3.4 steals per game.

Carlisle’s Bryan White was named RRC Coach of the Year, guiding the Wildcats to a share of the conference title after they went winless in the conference last season.
