Four Bombers make all-RRC first team

Four members of the Ballard softball team earned first-team all-Raccoon River Conference recognition after helping the Bombers take second in the conference in 2014.

Seniors Kenzie Ihle, Brooke Mallon and Annie Stolte were joined by junior Gabbie Scherle as honored Bomber players after helping Ballard go 10-4 in the conference. Carlisle won the RRC title with a 12-2 record.

Mallon and Scherle were both unanimous selections.

Mallon was chosen at catcher. She hit .295 with three home runs and 10 RBI and also threw out eight runners with no errors in 92 chances behind the plate in conference play.

Scherle hit .542 with 11 runs, nine steals and four RBI in conference play. She also made 13 putouts and two assists in center field.

Ihle was picked at pitcher. She went 10-4 with a 1.08 earned-run average, 71 strikeouts and 37 walks in 91 innings against RRC competition.

Ihle also hit .450 with five home runs and 16 RBI in the conference.

Stolte made 20 assists and 19 putouts with just two errors at shortstop in conference games. She also hit .342 with four doubles, one home run, 10 runs and eight RBI.

The rest of the all-RRC first team was made up of: Carlisle pitcher Gabby Schnathorst, infielder Taylor Davis, outfielders Shyanne Dubois and Payton Mercer and utility pick Hattie Hupke; Winterset catcher Kylie McDonald, infielder Sammie Nicholson and utility pick Macy Johnson; Bondurant-Farrar infielder Emily Wilson and outfielder Ashley Burrows; Adel-Desoto-Minburn utility selection Molly Jacobsen and Boone utility selection Kennedy Vinchattle. Dubois and Burrows joined Mallon and Scherle as unanimous picks.

Senior outfielder Ellie Godwin and junior utility pick Ellen Huxford made the all-RRC second team from Ballard.

Godwin hit .306 with eight runs and seven RBI and she also made 13 putouts and one assist with just one error in right field. Huxford made eight putouts in left field and she hit .394 with nine runs and five RBI versus RRC foes.

Senior Sheridan Gealow was named all-RRC honorable mention from Ballard. Gealow posted a .318 on-base average in conference play and she also recorded 22 assists and 18 putouts at third base.

Carlisle’s Jim Flaws was named RRC Coach of the Year.
