No. 3 Bomber girls lose at No. 8 B-F

BONDURANT – A hot-shooting Bondurant-Farrar team proved too much for Ballard in a Raccoon River Conference girls’ basketball showdown between two top 10 teams Friday in Bondurant.

Ballard, ranked third in Class 4A, was unable to slow down the No. 8 3A team on its home court as Bondurant-Farrar shot 51 percent from the field, and made 9 of 17 3-pointers and 14 of 16 free throws. The Bombers were also outrebounded by a 24-19 margin, falling to 16-3 overall and 9-2 in the RRC.

Bondurant-Farrar held Ballard to six points in the first quarter and by halftime, the Bluejays led 26-21. Bondurant-Farrar pushed its lead to nine points through three quarters, and a 19-point outburst in the fourth quarter wasn’t enough for Ballard to overcome the Bluejays’ big night from the field.

The Bombers lost despite forcing 17 turnovers and only committing 11. Ballard shot 39 percent from the field (17 of 43) and made 5 of 17 3-pointers and 12 of 16 free throws.

Gabie Doud had a game-high 21 points for Ballard after making 7 of 12 field goals – including her only 3-point attempt – and 6 of 9 free throws. Doud also pulled down six rebounds and recorded five steals, two assists and one block.

Emily Knittel added 13 points, six rebounds, two steals and one assist. Meredith Ossian hit three 3-pointers to finish with nine points, Alanna Dubberke and Sheridan Gealow netted four points apiece and Abby McGee chipped in five steals, four rebounds and two assists for the Bombers.

Ashley Burrows had 16 points, six rebounds, four assists and one steal to lead a balanced Bondurant-Farrar attack. Madi Atzen hit three 3-pointers and tallied 14 points, Amy Stock was 4 of 7 from long range, totaling 12 points and Keely Bycroft came through with 11 points, four rebounds and two assists for the Bluejays, who improved to 15-4 overall and 8-4 in the conference.
