Three area players were given first-team all-Heart of Iowa Conference honors in girls’ basketball for the 2013-14 season.
North Polk’s twin sister tandem of seniors Miranda and Megan Murphy and Collins-Maxwell-Baxter senior Abbie Haupert made the all-HOIC first team. The Murphys helped North Polk take second in the conference with a 16-2 record and Haupert averaged a double-double in HOIC play.
Miranda averaged 19.2 points, shooting 51 percent from the field and 76 percent from the line in conference play. She also averaged 8.2 rebounds, 2.3 steals and 1.9 assists.
Megan put up 18.5 points per game against HOIC competition – making 44 3-pointers and shooting 44 percent from the field, 42 percent from 3-point range and 85 percent from the line. She added 2.2 rebounds, 1.6 steals and 1.1 assists per game.
Haupert put up 14.6 points per game shooting 47 percent from the field and 62 percent from the line. She also snared 11.7 rebounds per game and averaged 2.4 blocks and 2.2 steals.
Joining the Murphy twins and Haupert on the all-HOIC first team were: Nevada’s Jessica Helton and Kati Cassabaum, Prairie City-Monroe’s Courtney VanHouweling, Roland-Story’s Natalie Vance and Greene County’s Kayla Mobley.
CMB junior guard Lexi Breon made the all-HOIC second team. Breon averaged 10.3 points and 4.9 assists against conference competition and she drilled 30 3-pointers and shot 79 percent from the line.
The rest of the second team included: Nevada’s Megan Pringnitz and Alli Fey, Gilbert’s Hillary Mosiman, PCM’s Rachel Freland and Abbi Gilson, Saydel’s Cassie Chubb and South Hamilton’s Savannah Stangeland.
Freshman guard Macy Gill and sophomore forward Rachel Zimmermann were all-HOIC honorable mention from North Polk. Gill averaged 6.6 points and 1.4 steals and Zimmermann recorded 4.4 points and 3.4 rebounds per game.
Sophomore forward Bridget Hurley and junior guard Mackenzie Schmitz were all-HOIC honorable mention from CMB. Hurley averaged 4.4 points and 4.9 rebounds and Schmitz put up 2.9 points, 1.8 assists and 1.3 steals per game in conference play.
