GILBERT – The North Polk volleyball team closed out the regular season with a four-set victory at Gilbert Oct. 17.
The two teams split the first two sets. North Polk won the opener, 25-19, and Gilbert returned the favor with a victory by the exact same score.
The third set saw North Polk regain momentum with solid 25-17 victory. The Comets then outfought the Tigers in set four, 25-22, to claim the victory and finish 6-3 in the Heart of Iowa Conference.
The win was North Polk’s seventh in succession and the Comets completed the regular season with a 22-9 record.
North Polk had 41 kills and 18 errors in 178 attacks for a .129 kill-efficiency rate. The Comets also stepped up defensively with nine blocks and added 11 aces on an 85 of 93 serving performance.
Freshman middle blocker Hannah Becker had a huge match individually for North Polk as she slammed down 13 kills with no attack errors in 30 attempts for an impressive .433 kill-efficiency rate. Becker also came through with two blocks defensively.
Megan Murphy, Lilly Lomica and Miranda Murphy chipped in eight kills apiece for the Comets. Megan also delivered 17 digs and went 18 of 19 serving with two aces; Lomica registered 12 digs, one block and three aces and Miranda was a rock defensively with five blocks.
Jill Christensen added four kills and she also finished with nine digs, three assists and one block. Gracie Harmeyer contributed 36 assists, 10 digs and two aces on a 19 of 19 serving effort and Morgyn Bullock came through with 22 digs and two aces.
