Six Bombers make all-3A District 4

The Ballard football team had 11 players receive all-district recognition in Class 3A District 4 this fall after the Bombers finished fourth in the district and qualified for the playoffs.

Ballard placed six players on the all-district team and five more Bombers were named honorable mention. District champion Dallas Center-Grimes and runner-up Boone both had nine players make the all-district team and third place finisher Grinnell landed seven all-district picks.

Making the all-district team for Ballard were seniors Mason Edwards, Mason Jensen, Kirklyn Kohrt, Tyler Kyhl and Jacob Nethers, along with junior Marcus Johnson.

Edwards caught nine passes for 268 yards and two touchdowns in district games as a big-play receiver and he also ran for 32 yards. Jensen had 22 tackles and two interceptions at defensive back, Nethers ran for 803 yards and nine touchdowns on 147 carries, Kyhl made 55 tackles and Kohrt helped Ballard average 23.7 points and 313.5 yards in district play.

The honorable mention picks from Ballard were seniors Spencer Struve and Zach Thompson, and juniors Ben Claussen, Quinton Erickson and Alex Silberstein.

Struve and Erickson each tallied 44 tackles and Struve also recovered two fumbles in district play. Claussen came through with 77 stops against district foes.

Thompson ran for 115 yards and one touchdown and Silberstein helped anchor the Bomber offensive line.
