COLFAX – An overpowering pitching performance from Brady Stover combined with a late surge on offense to lift the Collins-Maxwell-Baxter baseball team to a 4-2 victory over Colfax-Mingo Monday in Colfax.
Stover completely overwhelmed Colfax-Mingo most of the night. He fired a no-hitter and struck out an incredible 18 batters against just three walks.
Both Colfax-Mingo runs came in the bottom of the seventh. Only one of those was earned.
CMB only had one run through six innings after scoring in the top of the fourth. But a three-run seventh gave Stover the cushion he needed to finish off the Tigerhawks as CMB improved to 6-12 overall and 5-11 in the Heart of Iowa Conference.
Zach Samson smacked a solo home run and Creighton Caple doubled, walked twice and drove in a run to lead CMB at the plate. Stover singled, scored and stole a base; Hunter McWhirter was 1-for-4 with an RBI; Seth Balke knocked in a run; Nate Bishop was 1-for-4; Brad Ritter walked and scored and Brady Kemp scored once for the Raiders.
