On Monday, May 12, the town of Collins attempted to take a “bridge picture.” Due to inclement weather, it was rescheduled and successfully captured on Thursday, May 15.
Inspiration for the photo came from a picture taken in 1983 on the bridge that used to be on Hwy 210 and is on display in the Collins Maxwell High School/Middle School office in Maxwell. A group which included Kesha Christie, Cliff Dalbey and Amy Van Maanen arranged for this bridge picture to be taken to memorialize the bridge that is about to be demolished on Highway 65 just south of Collins.
The DOT and Story County Sheriff’s office were notified of the intent to take the picture, and were on hand to hold back traffic for the safety of all those involved. Jason Ellingson was instrumental in arranging the classes of children Pre-K through 12th grade as well as teachers to be bussed to the location. Many of the teachers in this picture were students in the original picture.
Lawn Pro donated the use of a boom truck, in which Andrea Berg volunteered to be lifted up approximately 40 feet into the air over the bridge to capture the moment. (If provided on Monday, insert quote here.)
The picture is intended to be displayed at the high school as well as the Collins Public Library and copies in a variety of sizes will be made available through A Berg Photography (515-979-3547).
