Two Bombers make all-RRC in boys’ basketball

The Ballard boys’ basketball team had two players make first-team all-Raccoon River Conference and two more individuals land on the second team in 2013-14.

Seniors Mason Jensen and Jacob Nethers were the two Bombers to land on the first team after helping Ballard finish tied for second in the conference with an 11-3 record.

Jensen was one of three players to be unanimously chosen to the all-RRC first team. Bondurant-Farrar’s Drake Fuller and Perry’s Shammond Ivory were the other two.

In RRC play Jensen averaged 21.2 points shooting 47 percent from the field and 68 percent from the line. He also averaged 5.1 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.6 steals.

Nethers put up 11.3 points per game shooting 47 percent from the field, 43 percent from 3-point range and 94 percent from the line. He also averaged 2.3 assists, 2.1 rebounds and 1.4 steals in conference play.

The rest of the all-RRC first team was made up of Carroll’s Cody Netusil, Eli Cleveland and Addison Ross and Carlisle’s Josh Hagedorn.

Senior forward Nick Hartman and sophomore guard Kolby Jensen landed on the all-RRC second team.

Hartman was a unanimous choice to the second team. He was joined by Bondurant-Farrar’s Sam Duffy and Tyvin Riley, Carlisle’s Jaryd Veith and Perry’s Will Whiton as unanimous picks on the second team.

Hartman averaged 8.1 points and 7.7 rebounds. He shot 47 percent from the field and 76 percent from the line in conference play.

Kolby put up 7.8 points, 2.4 assists, 2.2 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game against RRC competition.

The rest of the all-RRC second team consisted of Adel-Desoto-Minburn’s Logan Essy and Boone’s Brett Romig.

Ballard head coach Chris Deason was named co-coach of the year in the RRC. Carroll’s Chris Molinsky was the other recipient of the award.
