Ballard sophomores Gabie Doud and Emily Knittel were given all-state recognition in Class 4A for their efforts in helping the Bombers reach the state semifinals in 2013-14.
Doud was selected to the 4A first team by both the Iowa Newspaper Association and Iowa Girls Coaches Association. She was the leading scorer and rebounder for a Bomber team that tied for first in the Raccoon River Conference and finished 21-5 overall.
For the season Doud averaged 17.1 points, shooting 56 percent from the field and 67 percent from the line. She also made 10 3-pointers and averaged 7.5 rebounds and 2.7 steals.
Joining Doud on the all-INA 4A first team were: Harlan’s Jess Schaben and Taylor Frederick, Perry’s Claire Marburger, Western Dubuque’s Rose Simon-Ressler, Bishop Heelan Catholic’s Jenna Bork, Dallas Center-Grimes’ Dani Heritage and Winterset’s Mariah Criswell. MOC-Floyd Valley’s Alexis Conaway was named Miss Basketball in the state of Iowa by the INA.
The IGCA 4A first team consisted of Bork, Marburger, Heritage, Schaben, Frederick, Waverly-Shell Rock’s Morgan Neuendorf, Grinnell’s Deja Jackson and Doud. Carlisle’s Bryan White was named 4A Coach of the Year by the IGCA.
Knittel made the IGCA’s third team in 4A. Knittel averaged 12.2 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.2 steals and 1.1 assists; she shot 45 percent from the field and 73 percent from the line during the season.
